À propos du cours
Ce cours s'adresse aux physiothérapeutes qui travaillent déjà avec les femmes qui consultent pour des symptômes de prolapsus et pour qui un pessaire pourrait être un ajout intéressant au traitement de RPP.
Ce cours comprend une partie théorique mais l'emphase sera mise sur la pratique pour que les participants soient confortables à utiliser les pessaires dans leur clinique suite au cours. Il serait aussi un atout d'avoir évaluer des patientes avec des problèmes de prolapsus. Ceux qui ne peuvent pas avoir de palpation vaginale ou anale (ex: femme enceinte, homme-cis genre, etc.) sont demandés à faire venir une amie ou modèle.

Objectifs du Cours
- Comprendre les symptômes de prolapsus
- understand the indications and contra-indications for pessary use in female pelvic health
- be aware of the various types of pessaries available for prolapse and for incontinence
- be able to perform the Pelvic Organ Prolapse Quantification (POP-Q) inspection

know how and when to evaluate a patient for pessary candidature and sizing
- the nature of pelvic organ prolapse
- first line physio interventions for prolapse
- first line physio interventions for incontinence -
understand the correct sterilization and sanitization procedures for clinical pessary fitting
(each participant will be responsible to verify sterilization procedures in their own province) - be able to insert and remove a pessary
- be able to teach a patient how to insert and remove a pessary
- understand the importance of patient education and follow-up for continued care
- know the follow up procedures

Your Instructor
Marie-Josée is a clinical physiotherapist who has had her own private practice on the West Island of Montréal for over 30 years treating a variety of pelvic floor disorders. Marie-Josée is now owner of Kinatex Centre de Santé Pelvienne, a new state of the art clinic specializing and focusing on pelvic health, breastfeeding and paediatrics in Montreal’s West Island.
A pioneer in the field of pelvic health physiotherapy in Canada, Marie-Josee lectures nationally and internationally on the topic of pelvic floor rehabilitation. She has written several articles for the scientific and the lay audience, has been interviewed on television and for lay publications, and has participated in several research projects related to this field. In the past few years, she has been assistant instructor at McGill University for pelvic health physiotherapy education.
Marie-Josée has a history of being involved with the Canadian physiotherapy Association and the Women’s Health division. She was Chair of the division from 2014-2016 and served as the newsletter editor of the division for 4 years. In 2009, she received the prestigious mentorship award from Canadian Physiotherapy Association for her contribution in this field of physiotherapy.
